Packaging

The caps are made out of plastic. We are currently exploring using a plant-based plastic for these so that they can be recycled.

Cabinet pouches are made of 100% earth digestible (compostable) materials, specifically wood cellulose and biomaterials. They are also certified 100% backyard compostable and can be brought to local industrial or commercial composting facilities.

Cabinet refill pouches are made from wood cellulose and other biomaterials, all of which are 100% earth digestible. The pouches are back yard compostable, certified Lomi Approved, and municipal and industrial compostable (ASTM D6400).

It is also very important to avoid this product if you are currently taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken a MAOI in the past two weeks. If you were on a MAOI before, make sure to wait at least two weeks before taking Cabinet Daytime Severe Cold & Flu. MAOIs (i.e. isocarboxazid, phenelzine, quinidine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine) are a group of prescription drugs used to treat depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease. When some ingredients in this product are taken with a MAOI, very serious side effects may occur. If you are unsure if your prescription contains a MAOI, make sure to speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

Some side effects of this product include: nervousness, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, trouble sleeping, and nausea or vomiting. Uncommon, but more serious side effects include: confusion, hallucinations, mental or mood changes, shaking, weakness, and difficulty urinating. Call 9-1-1 or seek immediate medical help if you experience chest pain and fast or irregular heartbeat. These are rare, but very serious side effects! Some patients may experience side effects that are not on this list. Check in with your health care provider or local pharmacist if you have questions or experience concerning side effects.

Cabinet Daytime Cold & Flu Severe, a FDA-approved generic alternative to Tylenol® Cold & Flu Severe and Dayquil® Severe, is a popular over-the-counter (OTC) combination pill used for the temporary relief of common cold and flu symptoms. Each tablet contains four medicines, each working to relieve specific symptoms. How each individual ingredient works is explained below:

Acetaminophen: The active ingredient, acetaminophen, belongs to a group of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). The exact way acetaminophen works in the body is not well known. It may work by decreasing the production of chemicals that cause inflammation, known as prostaglandins. It is also thought that acetaminophen can increase the pain threshold, making it so that more pain would have to develop for before you can feel it. Lastly, acetaminophen can act on the heat-regulating center of the brain (hypothalamus). When your temperature is high, it can tell this center of the brain to cool the body to bring your fever down. It is important to note acetaminophen does not decrease inflammation or swelling, rather it most likely changes the way your body perceives pain. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Pain Reliever & Fever Reducer.

Dextromethorphan: The active ingredient, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, belongs to a group of medications called antitussives (or cough suppressants). Dextromethorphan is able to cross into the cough center of the brain to suppress the cough reflex. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Cough Relief.

Guaifenesin: The active ingredient, guaifenesin, belongs to a group of medications called expectorants. Expectorants work by loosening and thinning phlegm (mucus) present in the lungs and airways. By decreasing the thickness and stickiness of the mucus, guaifenesin makes it easier to cough or spit out mucus from the throat and lungs. This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Mucus Relief.

Phenylephrine: The active ingredient, phenylephrine, belongs to a group of medications called nasal decongestants. When blood vessels inside your nose expand, they start to swell and cause congestion. Nasal decongestants work by shrinking these blood vessels that are in the nasal passages to relieve symptoms. [It is important to note that phenylephrine differs from pseudoephedrine, which is the active ingredient in Sudafed.] This ingredient is available separately as Cabinet Nasal Decongestant.

Similar to the name brand; but much more easy to organize

My favorite thing about this cold and flu medicine is that it comes in a nice; stackable glass jar and that all the jars this brand offers are compatible. I like that they are square; so space between jars is minimized. Since Cabinet: offers other types of medicines; theoretically; a person could fill all their over-the-counter medical supplies with this unique style of containers. In addition; the brand offers refill pouches for each type of medicine so that the single glass bottle could potentially last a lifetime; reducing waste in the long run.The jar is made of glass; but the lid is plastic. It is a bit difficult to open the jar; but that's a good thing; especially since I have children in the house. The ingredients in the pills are exactly the same as the leading name brand; so I'm confident these will work similarly.

    Great cold meds; Tricky lid

I fought with the lid for 15 minutes until I finally PUSHED DOWN and TWISDTED it hard enough to open (I found this explained inside the box after I tore it apart). I use the medicine in these tablets for severe cold symptoms in the winter and am glad to discover that I can get them in this child resistant glass jar. Cabinet's refill program is a great way to keep fresh cold and flu medicine on hand.Expiration date on the jar I got is 3/2024 for 30 tablets. Developed by ACHAL and RUSS to help eliminate the plastic waste and contamination of our planet. You can learn more about their efforts by using the QR code inside the box.

Very Good Cold and Flu Remedy

These soft gels have the same ingredient lineup as many other non-drowsy capsules and seem to work as well. I like gels rather than tablets because they go down easier and seem to work faster. The packaging is secure; with the gels on a plastic bubble card. The price is right; too. I recommend them.

    As good as Day-Quil

This generic formulation works as effectively as legit Day-Quil cold capsules. All of the “daytime” medications are less effective than their “nighttime” counterparts; but if you simply can't risk drowsiness then you've got no choice but to use these.Size is pretty much the same as any liqui-gel capsule: photo shows one next to a US nickel coin. The outer shell I agree is a bit harder than some brands I've taken; but I had no problem swallowing them so I don't really think it matters.
